The Olive Hill Adult Learning Center and
Library is committed to empowering residents of Carter County, by helping
children and adults to achieve higher levels if literacy and develop the
skills they need to seek and effectively utilize information resources in
today's global society. As Carter County, Kentucky is one of the only
counties in Kentucky with no Public Library, the goal of the Olive Hill
Library is to provide educational opportunities and community library
services that are in keeping to the standards of other public libraries in
Kentucky. It is our belief that the citizens of Carter County should not be
denied this free access to information and services.
The Olive Hill Library was established in
1984 as a grass roots effort of concerned citizens. Since that time our
doors have remained open, thanks to generous donations. Whether the
donations be in the form of dollars, time, or materials each donation has
made the library thrive. Our library is staffed with volunteers, along with
our dedicated Board of Directors. Each strives to contribute their own
special skill or service.
Today our library offers programs and
services from children's reading camps to classes in entrepreneurship,
floral design, health workshops and tutoring. Many new programs are being
developed and partnerships with area organizations are being strengthened.
